Equipping Others to Step Into Their Calling

Scripture: “So Christ himself gave… pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.” — Ephesians 4:11–12 (NIV)
There was a season in my life when I believed that being responsible meant doing everything myself. At work, at church, even in my own home—I wore every hat. I thought if I didn’t do it, it wouldn’t get done.
But the truth? That mindset wore me out—and it kept others from growing.
I’ll never forget mentoring a young man who was unsure of himself. He had something to offer, but he didn’t see it yet. With some encouragement and guidance, he began to grow into a confident, capable leader. After his first time stepping up, he told me, “I didn’t think I could do that.” I smiled and said, “You just did.”
Equipping others isn’t just for pastors or teachers. It’s for parents, coworkers, mentors, friends—for anyone who cares about helping others grow. Sometimes the best thing you can do for someone is believe in them before they believe in themselves.
When you invite someone to step up—whether it's leading a project, helping with a group, or offering their voice—you aren’t just delegating. You’re developing. You’re planting seeds that God will grow.
And maybe, in doing that, you’ll feel a little less pressure to carry it all alone.
Ask Yourself:
Where in my life am I doing too much instead of inviting others to help?
Who around me needs a little encouragement to step into something new?
What would change if I saw leadership as multiplying instead of maintaining?
Prayer: Lord, thank You for the people around me. Show me how to encourage and equip them—not just to take tasks off my plate, but to help them discover the gifts You’ve placed inside them. Teach me to lead with humility, trust, and joy. Amen.
